Holiday celebrations can be ruined by pet accidents. While stirring up some holiday cheer make sure you think about the safety of your pet. Our Brantford veterinarian at Beattie Animal Hospital wants to remind pet owners that the holidays can bring hazards for their furry friends. Hazards for pets include bones, electrical cords, ornaments, holiday plants and stress.Animal Hospital Guides Pet Owners About Holiday Accident Prevention
Small bones from the holiday turkey or ham can get lodged into your animal’s throat, stomach and intestinal tract. Pet owners should not attempt to give their dogs bones from their holiday feast. Steak bones pose a hazard as well.
Electrical cords can be a choking hazard for pets and young children. Puppies and kittens will chew on electrical cords, which put them in danger of electrocution. It is best for the cords to be hidden or covered in order to protect your pet from harm.
Ornaments can be very dangerous for pets, too. Sharp, breakable ornaments can cut your pet or cause damage if ingested. Tinsel and ribbons pose a danger as well; they can be choking hazards or get tangled around the stomach and intestines if swallowed.
Holiday plants, although beautiful and festive, can be deadly to your pets. Holly and mistletoe are extremely poisonous when eaten. Poinsettia’s are not deadly but can cause stomach problems if licked or eaten. The best approach is to keep all plants out of reach.
The holidays can be stressful for pets. A house full of strangers and guests can get your pet excited and scared. Pets may try to escape out of open doors and run away. Keep your pets inside and try to give them a nice quiet space of their own for them to relax and stay calm.
At our Brantford veterinary clinic, our 24-hour vet can care for your pet if there is an accident during the holiday season. Our veterinary staff at Beattie Animal Hospital is certified to provide quality care for your pets, including dentistry, pet grooming, pet boarding and surgery on dogs and other animals when necessary. Bring your animals to our 24-hour vet and get them the care they deserve.

What is Veterinary Supervised Pet Boarding?
Our 24 hour vet is a boarding location for pet owners in the Brantford area who want a place for their animal companions to stay when they are away. Pets that are older or have special dietary needs who require pet boarding and general animal care can do so under the supervision of our vet staff at Beattie Animal Hospital.
We offer cat and dog boarding, in addition to daily daycare service at our animal hospital. This service provides a choice for those who do not want to leave their pet alone while they are at work, either for health or behavioral reasons.
If your pet does require pet boarding, it is highly recommended to make an appointment in advance of needing assistance.
Have you considered boarding for your cat or dog? Have you utilized vet supervised boarding before? We would love to hear about your experiences!
Pet owners interested in scheduling a boarding reservation may call us directly at 519-756-1770.
Pet Grooming at Beattie Animal Hospital
Posted on 2011-10-11 08:19:43
Grooming can make your pet look and feel better. Daily grooming or brushing will help keep your pet's coat tangle and pest free, but scheduling an appointment with our animal hospital can provide your pet with other grooming features as well, such as nail clipping or bathing
Why Use a Pet Grooming Professional?
If you don't enjoy chasing a wet dog through the house on bath day, consider bringing him to one of our grooming professionals; at Beattie Animal Hospital in Brantford, there is always a grooming professional on duty to help you out. No matter what breed you own, big or small, one of our animal hospital grooming professionals will be available.Every breed and individual is different and our Brantford pet grooming professional or veterinarian can give you an idea of how frequently your pet needs to be groomed. A bath and full brush out can help your long haired dog or cat feel better and cooler in the summer, and help eliminated places that pests could hide.
Keeping the coat free of mats or tangles also makes daily grooming at home an easy task that both you and your pet enjoy. If you are sensitive to pet hair and dander, then grooming will reduce the amount of excess shedding and hair in your home, making it a healthy prospect for the humans in the house as well.
Grooming covers more than just a bath; your pet's nails will be clipped as well. Treating your cat to a regular pedicure can keep her from damaging your furniture, while maintaining your dog's nails can prevent overgrowth, a condition that would need to be treated by a veterinarian.
We'd love to hear -- does your pet love daily grooming time, or does she disappear when the brush comes out?
